Version 3 was feeling good, but it wasn’t quite there. The lime green color I was using in the style guide as one of the company colors was too close to the new green being used in the color coding, so I decided to ditch the lime green. Now the home and utility pages will use the dark gray from the style guide at the top next to the logo. That change effected the top utility navigation as well. One thing we have tossed around was a “start your project” call to action where a user could download our client questionnaire or give us a call. Looking over the composition I noticed something wasn’t quite right. When I turned back on the grid I saw that I had broken it in a few places which made the page unbalanced. Adding the copy to the pages was next, so I could make adjustments to the body and get a sense of how the new copy will be laid out. I wasn't sure exactly what I might do with the copy, how I might play with the layout of it, next week I should have all the copy placed in the six main pages as I get closer to a final composition.

After that I added more color to the gray areas of the page and played with opacity since I know we are going to be taking advantage of CSS3. There is now RGBA which will let you control the opacity of any HEX color used such as background colors, borders, and text. You will also notice I did draw a dark gray line down the left side of the page, price of soma. This is just me trying to make those mistakes as fast as I can. Another thing that was still being used in these first roughs is the old logo, or at least it is being treated like the old logo. You will see it change to the refreshed version in the compositions to come.

Type Casting

Through these first rough compositions where I am figuring out the graphical elements I am also changing the fonts and the way the type looks. Just for the sake of trying it out I tried eliminating the color coding from the design. Ordering soma without prescription, This was an option we talked about. Color in the Lines

As you see in the above layouts I wanted to use the colors sparingly; I didn’t want to saturate the page with color, ordering soma without prescription. The color is supposed to mean something. I had an idea early on that I was going to use the color in the stripes of the logo area to call out what section you are on and that was going to be the big splash of color at the top of the pages. Other than the titles and headers being colored everything else would be dark gray, so the color really pops. Since no other design has been added, such as a background image, art, or photography, you can get a sense of how the color will play on each of the pages. I don’t want to be bothered with background textures or art until I am happy with how color is being used throughout the site.

From those 3 fonts I cut out the grungy one and replaced it with Titillium. I was still tossing the idea around of a handwriting font, but the thin sleek nature of Titillium’s lightest weight felt like a fine tip pen made the marks. This satisfied me for now.

It then dawned on me that with this one font I sort of had all the styles I needed to designate the type being a header, a title, or copy. I replaced the font I had for the company name and navigation with Titillium and played with the weights until I got what I was looking for.

So I went from using three fonts to two, and then now to just one font. This may change; I am still keeping the idea of a handwriting font on the table. As we get into the graphics for the page and eventually the artwork other fonts may be brought in, but for now I wanted to move into color and graphics.
